Common Reader Suggestions for 2022-2023

The NEHS Advisory Council is seeking recommendations for the 2022-2023 Common Reader. What books have you or your NEHS members read recently that made you think, moved you, or filled you with wonder? A survey of the compiled suggestions will be sent to all chapters in February 2022 to gather data that will guide the selection.

The texts, fiction or non-fiction, should be of sufficient challenge to engage rising seniors in critical thinking and to prompt excellent analysis. Recommendations may be either fiction or non-fiction; we tend not to select from the classics, works commonly found in the high school literature canon, or texts that have been made into film. Due to cost implications, texts already published in paperback form are considered first. Send suggestions, including a few sentences explaining your rationale for recommending the text, to no later than January 31, 2022.
